LE TOUR DE LA GRANDE TERRE
For three days, Artiom and myself took the Peugeot 206 and went around the island. La Grande Terre is rather big (450 kms from North to South and 60 kms from East to West: like a long asparagus!). It may not seem impressive, but when you drive for 1,300 kms along small roads and even sand roads... you then realize how big the island can be!! Anyway, we had a great time visiting and island that has soooo many different landscapes to offer!
We started the trip in Nouméa and went North through the West coast. We stopped at the Paserelle Marguerite where we saw this old and very nice hearse (car for the dead).

Then we visited the Fort Térémba, one of the first forts made in the island by the French. This fort was constantly attacked by the Kanaks (locals).

We made a stop at Bourail, a town located 160 kms North of Nouméa. The second biggest city in New Caledonia is quite nice. Its main touristic interest is its rocky cliffs next to the ocean. Le Bonhomme de la " Roche percée ".

We also stopped at several locations on the West coast such as the town called "POYA"... no comments... lol
